Gemological Microscopes are a special breed. They are used to separate natural diamonds (as well as other gemstones) from Synthetic Diamonds and Diamond Simulants, as well as reveal any Enhancements.

Loupes can also be used for magnification in all the above uses.

These days they usually have:

  • stereo vision
  • zoom
  • magnification from 10x to 35x at least
  • wire stone holder
  • reflected light
  • back lighting
  • darkfield lighting
  • preferably with HD camera and viewer

The best known and most used brands are from GIA, Kassoy, and other makers.
