H & A — Hearts and Arrows Cut, refers to the pattern that is created when a diamond is cut to precise parameters known to create patterns of hearts on one side of the diamond when viewed through special viewers, and arrow patterns when viewed through the other side with the special viewers.
Many manufacturers create such diamonds using different trade names.
Such diamond cutting is often done by laser guided machines developed in Japan, but can also be achieved by hand using the usual cutting tools of the trade, but requires exceptional skills and cutting to very narrow tolerances of precision.
It is common for me to receive the question about whether these diamonds produce enough beauty to warrant the extra cost. For that answer, see our FAQ.
